TheMA programme in Interior Design at HBU-UCLan is for professional and newly qualified designers who hold a first degree. It is a broad based degree, over a 3 year period which provide students with the opportunity to explore the future of spaces, landscapes, environments and ecosystems and challenges them to envisage fresh urban lifestyles by merging concepts from architecture, social sciences, human anthropology and scientific discovery. It aims to challenge contemporary thinking to formulate individual and rigorous, critically independent responses to spaces, living domains, work and leisure environments from a point of view of reducing environmental impact.
The programme evolves from a creative practice base, then as it progresses, there is a strong emphasis on research, and students are encouraged to take a speculative, experimental approach based on future scenarios, sometimes on a case study or imaginary basis. This may involve challenging and critiquing current concepts and assumptions around products, services and sectors.
