On June 21, 2025, as a core participant of the 2025 Beijing Midsummer Art Season, HBU-UCLan co-organized the thematic exhibition "Colorful World • Creative China" under the Beijing Bonded Art Zone Midsummer Art Season, focusing on the theme of "Transnational Art Education Practice".
At the opening ceremony, distinguished guests including Liu Changquan, former Executive Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Li Tao, former Director-General of the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (at Vice-Ministerial level), Zhang Feng, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Hebei University, Yang Xiuwen, Secretary-General of the Art Education Professional Committee of the Chinese Education Development Strategy Society, and Lu Haihong, Chairman of Beijing Capital Culture Creative Real Estate Co., Ltd., attended and delivered speeches.
During the forum, keynote speeches were delivered by Professor Han Chao of Capital Normal University (PhD from the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University), Professor Noriki Akagi of Yokohama National University, Japan, Professor Moon Bong-Seon of Midwest Art University, USA (a Korean artist), Professor Sion Hughes, British Vice Dean of the HBU-UCLan School of Media, Communication and Creative Industry, and Professor Du Hao, Dean of the Cultural Industry Research Institute of Hebei University. They elaborated on the deep connections between art education, cultural trade, and mutual learning among civilizations. The opening ceremony and forum were presided over by Zhang Dongsheng, Secretary-General of the International Education Branch of the Chinese Education Society. Professor Lv Yi, Dean of the School, and Professor Sion Hughes, jointly served as Artistic Directors, becoming a prominent landmark in the Sino-foreign cultural dialogue. A delegation of 39 members, including the School's leadership team and representatives of Chinese and international faculty and students, attended the entire opening ceremony and forum.
At the opening ceremony, Professor Lv Yi, together with Duan Leyi, a cello teacher from Hebei University, and Zhang Ximeng, a violin teacher from Baoding University, performed Shostakovich's chamber music trio. The melodious music perfectly integrated painting art and music at the thematic exhibition. As the melody of the black and white piano keys resonated with the splendor of the Qing Dynasty cloisonné enamels in the exhibition hall, it echoed Vice President Zhang Feng's statement in his speech: "This is a harmonic resonance between the artistic genes of the Yan-Zhao region and British aesthetics."
At the opening ceremony, Professor Sion Hughes, as a representative British artist, delivered a keynote presentation. The scholar, who is also a sculptor, designer, and educator, shared the innovative practices and achievements of the Sino-British cooperative education at the School during the forum. His personal series of works were exhibited in the "Interweaving Light Streams" international art exhibition.
For this art exhibition, a curatorial team consisting of 19 Chinese and international faculty members from the School was formed. Building upon the oil paintings, printmaking works, art installations, film and television works, animation works, environmental art works, and creative works created by the faculty and students of the School, artists from the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Denmark, South Korea, Mauritius, and overseas Chinese artists were invited to participate, presenting an exquisite feast of Chinese and international art works to the audience.
