To further advance the digital transformation of education and explore pathways for the deep integration of artificial intelligence technology with design-related programmes, the HBU-UCLan held a teaching salon on Interior Design curriculum development in C5-105 on the morning of 26 November 2025. The event specially invited Professor Yu Zhao from the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at Beijing University of Technology to share practical experience. Over 40 teachers and students from our School gathered to discuss the innovative development of design education. The teaching salon was chaired by Fu Hongyan, Vice Dean of the School.

The salon focused on the theme of "Interior Design Curriculum Development in the Context of Artificial Intelligence". Ran Meng, a lecturer in Interior Design at the School, introduced the content of relevant specialised courses, and Professor Yu Zhao was invited to share innovative practices in their specialised curriculum system. This curriculum system not only restructures the roles of "teaching" and "learning" but also provides a feasible paradigm for cultivating a new generation of design talents in the field of environmental art and design, who possess both humanistic concern and technical competence, through interdisciplinary, practice-oriented, and intelligence-integrated teaching design. Yu Zhao also engaged in in-depth analysis and exchange with faculty representatives from the School regarding curriculum development. Teachers including Sean Dong, Head of the Design Department, and Timothy Chan, Interior Design course leader, participated in the symposium.
This teaching salon established a high-quality platform for exchanging excellent teaching experience within the School, injecting new ideas and methods into the curriculum reform of the Interior Design programme. The School will continue to focus on the trends in the digitalisation of education, deepen the integration and innovation of AI technology with specialised teaching, and continuously enhance the quality of talent cultivation and the level of programme development.
