HBU-UCLan School of Media, Communication and Creative Industries Opens New Chapter in International Research Collaboration

2025-11-20

On the afternoon of 20 November, a symposium on the construction of the INTER-HUB International Interdisciplinary Practice Centre for Cultural Heritage was held in the School's fifth-floor Conference room. The participating experts engaged in in-depth discussions about the transnational cultural heritage research and artistic practice platform. The project team introduced the Centre's overall concept, which will promote contemporary expression of cultural heritage through interdisciplinary artistic practice and international research and dialogue, providing new impetus for the inheritance and international communication of local culture in Hebei Province.

The symposium was attended by Dean Lü Yi of the School, Chinese faculty members Yuan Yun, Wu Yanhui, Li Zheng, and Cui Yuchen, British faculty member Isabel Benito Gutiérrez, along with MA music students of School.

Participants conducted discussions focusing on cultural heritage documentation, creative reinterpretation, and research on social impact, integrating the unique characteristics of Hebei's local culture. The discussions covered creating open spaces for cross-boundary collaboration, organising cultural heritage promotion activities, advancing innovative presentation of traditional Chinese arts, and fostering new artistic forms that blend cross-cultural and interdisciplinary elements. These include animation inspired by local traditional arts, collaboration with the University of Lancashire's "Global Sound Movement" team, local cultural documentaries, transnational educational dialogues, establishing cooperative mechanisms with local cultural institutions such as museums, setting up small-scale archives, exploring multilingual podcast launches, preparing transnational course collaborations, planning "Creative Heritage Convergence" festival activities, and publishing bilingual academic works and documentaries. These discussions laid a solid foundation for the Centre's future work advancement.

The symposium also shared potential practical positions for students, including research assistantships, media coordination, literature management, podcast planning, and museum collaborations, building a platform for students to engage in international cooperation and cross-boundary creative work.

Supported strongly by both universities, the INTER-HUB International Interdisciplinary Practice Centre for Cultural Heritage will continue to innovate, constantly expanding the breadth and depth of international exchange, and promoting more outstanding achievements featuring traditional Chinese cultural characteristics and global perspectives to reach the world.
